Onam, the harvest festival of Kerala, is celebrated against a setting of lush green vegetation. This picturesque harvest festival brings ten days of colour, feasting, boat races, song and dance to the state. This festival falls in the month of August or September according to the moon calendar.
This year it falls on August 28th.
The keralites celebrate Onam unitedly without the difference of caste and religion. The folk song which is sung all over the Kerala during these times is-
When Mahabali ruled the land
Everyone was equal
Happily they lived
Danger befell none
There was no falsehood, or fraud
And no untruth
